Film Review Scale

That's "Social Studies" not "Socialist."
I rate films on a typical grade school chart. For example, an “A+” rating is the best of the best, while an “F” is the worst of the worst. A “C” is right there in the middle somewhere, and is nothing to be ashamed of. I've come to learn that ignoring C and D reviewed movies does them a disservice. Every film, with some exceptions, deserves a look. You never know what you'll find.

I provide these ratings to give you an impression of my feelings of a movie’s quality and, based on your own judgment, allow you to decide if you think the film being reviewed is worth your time.

There are some movies I won't watch, mostly because I'm not interested in the stories they have to tell. I avoid movies that might be considered "torture porn." Watching people hurt other people for the sake of disturbing the audience isn't my idea of a good time. I love Rob Zombie as a musician and artist, but I couldn't stomach House of a Thousand Corpses. I sat through the first Human Centipede (and actually sort of enjoyed it), but I won't watch the sequel. I'm also not much into slasher flicks. That said, I recently watched Rob Zombie's version of Halloween and I enjoyed it for the most part. Go figure, right?

I categorize the films I enjoy and actively seek out as supernatural horror. Ghosts, hauntings, possessions, and weird, explainable phenomena are the things I crave. I enjoy found footage movies, too, whether or not they involve the supernatural. I have a soft spot for vampire, werewolf, and zombie films, too. It's just the way I'm wired.

If there's a film that you'd like me to check out, please drop me a line and let me know about it. I may have already seen it, even though I haven't yet reviewed it, but it's worth a shot. Sometimes the best films are the ones I haven't even heard of, and exchanging information is what the internet is all about.
